The second St. George’s Festival will take place from Wednesday 22 June to Sunday 26 June 2011.

The festival will open on the Wednesday with St George’s once again transformed into a gallery and open daily for the rest of the week. Works by talented artists, craftspeople and children from our local schools will be on display and available to purchase. On the Saturday morning, visitors will be encouraged to sign up to the fun workshops to try their hand at making things themselves. Children will be particularly welcome. Morning coffee and light lunches will be served.

Music is once again at the heart of the Festival, so it is fitting that a concert featuring Stockport musicians the Pantonic All Stars Steel Band and the award winning ladies’ barber shop choir the Crystal Chords, will launch the Festival’s weekend activities on the Friday evening.

A recurring theme for the festival is the story of Joseph and his coat of many colours. A giant replica of the coat, created by the dozens of adults and school children currently taking part in the knitting project, will be on prominent display. The Joseph theme will also be reflected in a performance of the well known ‘Joseph’ musical, as well as through the children’s artwork and the floral displays by the members of the Stockport Afternoon Flower Club.

On the Saturday afternoon, at 3.0.pm, St George’s Choir and Singing Group will combine for Choral Evensong. They will sing a festival setting of this traditional service. Cream teas will be served after the service.

The 10.15 service on Sunday morning will appeal to people of all ages, and will centre around the Joseph story and the performance of the musical setting of ‘Joseph’.

The church will be open throughout Sunday afternoon, when St George’s bellringers will ring a quarter peal. This will be followed by the Festival Service at 5.0.pm. The Choir and Singing Group will once more combine to lead the music at this celebratory service. Afterwards, cheese and wine will be served.
